Film Fest Ghent hard hit by corona: not half of the number … (Ghent)

Gent –

The 47th edition of Film Fest Gent attracted 41,000 visitors between 13 and 24 October. That is less than half of last year, when there were about 100,000 visitors.

The bummer was of course corona, which ensured that only 50 percent of the room capacity could be used, with a maximum of 200 visitors per room. During the second week of the festival, late night performances also had to be canceled. There was also an online section, where 2,000 streams were recorded. The title most streamed was the documentary ‘For Sama’ by Waad al-Kateab.

Despite everything, General Director Marijke Vandeburie is satisfied: “We are very grateful that the festival was able to continue. We have strictly applied the measures to safely receive the masses of audiences. ”

The Grand Prix for best film went to the documentary ‘Petite fille’ by Sébastien Lifshitz. Ivan Ostrochovský’s black and white film ‘Servants’ won the Georges Delerue Prize for Best Music and Sound Design. Icelander Hildur Guðnadóttir won the Film Composer of the Year Award and Nicholas Britell takes the TV Composer of the Year Award at the 20th World Soundtrack Awards.
