Manski had arrived in Moscow to open the Artdokfest film festival. A man came to Manska near the Oktjabr cinema, where the opening of the festival was to take place, and started asking him questions.

Documentary filmmaker Vitalijs Manskis moved to Latvia with his family after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. He has created the documentary film festival “Artdocfest / Riga”, and in recent years his films “Relatives”, “Putin’s Witnesses”, “Gorbachev’s Paradise” document the recent history, which also includes the director. He has been a documentary filmmaker for the Russian political elite.
Manski has opposed the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine. “I believe that even if I live in Latvia, if I have a Russian passport, I bear co-responsibility for Russia’s actions. Even if I speak out against the Kremlin’s course.
