Ten films have been chosen to make up the “Jorge Perugorría” cycle, a selection that includes national and international productions starring the famous actor, and which will be shown at the La Rampa cinema from today until January 17. With the display of the restored version of Strawberry and Chocolate the cycle begins, which until the 10th includes national films in which the actor has participated. In addition to the classic chosen for the opening, they also make up the selection Vertical love, Waiting list, Honey for Oshún and The wall of words. Values of the University of Havana are recognized on its 293rd anniversary
The Cuban Minister of Higher Education, José Ramón Saborido, congratulated professors, workers and students of the University of Havana, Cuba’s oldest academic institution, on Tuesday, regarding its 293 years of foundation. 2020 Annual Prize for Literary Criticism
The Annual Prize for Literary Criticism is awarded to the most important books published by Cuban publishing houses during a period of one year. It is convened by the Cuban Book Institute and the Círculo de la Crítica and has the objective of stimulating both the creation of authors and the work of publishers. On this occasion, the books corresponding to the 2019 editorial production were awarded. The Jury, chaired by Francisco López Sacha, and made up of Marilyn Bobes, Haydée Arango Milián, Félix Julio Alfonso López and Norberto Codina, decided to award the following titles: Dionysus in the Antilles, by Elina Miranda Cancela; Rare and valuable of nineteenth-century Cuban literature, by Leonardo Sarría, Night Skinby Alexis Díaz Pimienta, among others.
They announce new rates for services of Cuban cultural institutions
Cubaescena published the resolution that establishes the new rates for theater services, which will be subject to updating. According to Cubaescena, all matters related to the order are still under analysis and the Cuban government is evaluating all concerns to adopt the necessary measures in each case. Until now, the rates will range between 10 and 120 pesos according to the conditions of the theaters and the quality of their programming. The National Council of Performing Arts may address the concerns of individuals and organizations on any matter related to it.
They prepare a wide program of activities for the birth of José Martí
On the occasion of celebrating the 168th anniversary of the birth of José Martí on January 28, several institutions in the country are preparing a day of activities in honor of the National Hero of Cuba, which includes exhibitions, poetry interpretation contest, troubadour concerts, among others proposals. The activities will have as a special area of action the José Martí Birthplace Museum, an institution close to its centenary of being founded and which is recognized as the first heritage site that especially preserved and promoted the Master’s legacy. National premiere and premiere of Cuban feature film announced, August
The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry announces the premiere and national premiere of the Cuban feature film August, by director Armando Capó, which will take place next Friday. Starting on Saturday, January 9, the film will be screened in the Acapulco, Yara and Multicine Infanta cinemas and in the rest of the country’s movie theaters. This is the film with which Capó won the Coral Award for Best First Feature at the 41st edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, held in 2019. The film narrates some of the adventures of a particularly hard summer, the one of 94, in which an adolescent lives with his parents, grandmother and friends a succession of events that put him before a dilemma.
Afro-American Social and Cultural Anthropology Scientific Workshop begins today
The Scientific Workshop on Afro-American Social and Cultural Anthropology in its 25th edition will be dedicated to the memory of the City Historian, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, and the 140th anniversary of the birth of the ethnologist, anthropologist, archaeologist and journalist, Don Fernando Ortiz. In person and through social networks, the meeting will take place from Wednesday until January 8, as part of the cultural actions for the 35 years since the founding of the House of Africa. Researchers, experts in anthropological studies related to the black continent and its diaspora, oral narrators, as well as museologists from Cuban provinces and other countries will participate.
