Hundreds of guests expected at the opening

More than 400 visitors are expected at the opening, the organizers announced. Among them are director Dominik Graf as guest of honor, as well as the American actress Amanda Plummer, the French actress and screenwriter Isild Le Besco and the Irish actor John Connors.

The festival begins with the feature film “Traumnovelle”. The new adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s literary classic tells the story of the repressed desires of a married couple in Berlin at night. Director Florian Frerichs and the main actors will attend the premiere.

Film about the parents of Oldenburg serial killer Niels Högel

The documentary film “Beyond Guilt”, which will be presented on September 14 and 15, is of particular importance for the region. It sheds light on the fate of the parents of the nurse Niels Högel, who was convicted of 87 murders of patients in Oldenburg and Delmenhorst. “The film provides deep insights into the processing of the incomprehensible and shows how a family deals with the overwhelming burden of their son’s actions and the intense media attention,” the organizers said.

After the film screening, directors Katharina Köster and Katrin Nemec will talk to Petra Klein, deputy federal chairwoman of the victim protection organization Weisser Ring, about the filming and answer questions from the audience. According to the organizers, Niels Högel’s parents are not expected to attend.

The Oldenburg Film Festival runs from September 11th to 15th. The films will be shown in various cinemas in the city, in Theaterhof 19 and in the Oldenburg State Theater. Tickets can be purchased online or at the festival center.
