Arts Forum 2021

The Institute of Communication and Image of the University of Chile, ICEI, will have a leading role in the Forum of the Arts 2021 and will present the Film Series of the University of Chile, which will feature previews of fiction feature films and documentaries recently made by academics and graduates of the Film and Television Career of the U. de Chile.

The inauguration of the Forum of the Arts 2021 “Transits and Transformations”, seeks to generate a formal instance from the University of Chile to the community and public opinion, Installing a critical discussion on the concept of “public space” on the university and cultural agenda, delving into its present as a field of productive tensions, of Transits and Transformations towards other modes of social interaction, cultural production and political activism, further deepened in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since its inception, the Forum of the Arts has promoted communicating vessels between society, culture, politics and art, considering that a look at art in the present requires an understanding from a complex field of manifestations, where different reflective and creative axes dialogue. In turn, identifying the gravitational vertices of this field allows defining specific problems that function as a horizon of meaning, also assuming that they are dynamic poles in a perpetual state of permeability.

For Loreto Rebolledo, director of the Institute of Communication and Image, ICEI’s participation in the Arts forum means “to contribute, from our interdisciplinary field, to a fundamental discussion that is the understanding of public space from the image and new technologies, the way in which these have influenced its construction in times of pandemic and its consequences in the communication and understanding of art today “

Regarding the cinema cycle of the Forum of the Arts, Rebolledo affirms that it is a very important instance for the ICEI “because it allows us to show the look that our teachers, students and graduates develop on the processes that our society lives through an artistic language such as Cinema and that is in constant reflection and transformation ”.

Carlos Saavedra, director of the Film and Television Race, maintains that This is an unprecedented opportunity to share about cinematographic creation inside the Casa de Bello, in a space that promotes practical and experimental dissemination. “Teachers have had to make distribution and extension efforts, but always outside, with other platforms and possibilities that are not many either, so this space adds to that work.”

In this sense, the professor adds that this cycle shows its distinctive seal, which is the contemporary way in which the different genres dialogue to deal with the themes that are touched upon, the central axis of this film series: “Our themes generate a range of what our university wants to communicate. The discourse on inclusion, gender, interculturality does not stop there, but is reflected in the different works that will be exhibited, those that have a much more contemporary stamp. Today the genres are diffuse and that dialogue is the hallmark of our School. It is not uncommon to see a fiction or an animation that communicates with the documentary, we are precisely innovating in that plasticity of audiovisual language ”.

The series will premiere on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. and will end on Friday, October 27 at 8:00 p.m. It will be broadcast on the social networks of the Cineteca of the University of Chile, via Facebook Live of the Foro de las Artes U.
