After passing through the festivals of Cannes, San Sebastián, Busán, Chicago, and recently the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival, Simón Mesa Soto’s first feature film, ‘Amparo’, will have its premiere in national theaters from of April 28.
A story that takes place in Colombia at the end of the 90s, when Amparo’s eldest son, Elías, is already 18 years old, has been fit for compulsory military service and has been assigned to a remote battalion in a region in conflict.

Over the course of a day, the time she has before being recruited, Amparo sets out on a quest to prevent her son’s departure. A decision that confronts her with a society governed by man, corruption and war.
The cast included Sandra Melissa Torres (Amparo), who received the Best Actress Award at Cannes Critics’ Week, Diego Alejandro Tobón (Elías), Luciana Gallego (Karen), John Jairo Montoya (Víctor), and Adriana Vergara (Lucia).

Amparo has also received awards such as the Prix Fondation Louis Roederer de la Révélation de la Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Festival (awarded to the leading actress); the Silver Hugo of the New Directors Competition of the Chicago International Film Festival; the Jury Prize of the International Critics of the Lima Film Festival; and the Best Actress Award in the Ibero-American Competition at the Punta del Este International Film Festival.
The film was screened for the first time in the country as part of the 61st edition of the Cartagena de Indias International Festival and will now be shown in Colombian movie theaters starting on April 28.
