On Friday 28 October, at 10 am, the new Center for Science and Innovation of the Riga Technical University (RTU) will be inaugurated with a ceremonial ceremony in person and in virtual reality, where students, entrepreneurs, scientists and researchers will be able to create innovative projects products and develop science-intensive ideas using the new broad spectrum equipment in open-type workshops as well as co-working and other rooms, the “Delphi” portal was informed by the university representatives.

The RTU Science and Innovation Center develops an environment for knowledge support, creation and implementation of innovations, which includes both product development and various national and international tools for developing ideas from the initial stage to conquering the global market . The center also participates in the creation of innovation policy in Latvia and Europe.
A clean and dirty prototyping laboratory is located on the 2nd floor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the RTU, Ķipsalas Street 6A, in the more than 1,000 square meters of space, where equipment for laser cutting, vacuum forming, various equipment for 3D printing, integrated with a conveyor belt for printing parts of unlimited length, a vacuum table is available. , which will enable large-scale machining processes, CNC milling and other prototyping equipment, which are vital in modern manufacturing or product development processes.
The support of the centre’s specialists – senior engineers, industrial designers and other experts – will be available to help students, scientists and companies develop innovative products with high added value.
The center will also have a co-working space, several meeting rooms, an event and conference room. The Technology Business Center of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency will create a home there.
On 28 October at 10 am, the academic rector Leonids Ribickis, the vice rector of sciences Tālis Juhna, the director of the center Liene Briede, representatives of ministries and companies will participate in the opening of the RTU Science and Innovation Center.

Various events are also planned, for example, at 10.40-12.30 the RTU Research Platforms seminar-breakfast for university researchers and companies will be held, and at 12.00-13.30 there will be a master class on the future prototyping of the Latvian innovation ecosystem, to to which business executives and decision makers responsible for the development of the Latvian innovation ecosystem are invited. The events of the Energy Efficiency Week will also take place during the day and the “Climathon” climate solutions hackathon will take place in the evening and at the weekend.

Students, innovators and companies are invited to be involved in creative activities, for example on October 31 at 3 pm the creative workshop “The Hero’s Journey” will take place, where teams of students, using a design thinking approach, will create ideas and their prototypes. in a dynamic environment. Company representatives are instead invited to a practical seminar “Theory U for future managers” at 1pm, which will be led by Georgs Rubenis. On November 1st, at 1 pm, there will be a startup master class “Ideju fitness or how to improve your ideas”, and then there will be an opportunity to hear the stories of successful Latvian and Estonian startups.
