Researchers for the first time have succeeded in uncovering what is inside a black hole. According to a study published in the journal PRX Quantumthe black hole is most likely a hologram.

In addition, the study also mentions that the entire universe is a hologram.

The study, which tries to look in more detail at what is inside a black hole, also seeks to better understand the idea of ​​a holographic duality.

Holographic duality is a mathematical conjecture that attempts to relate the theory of particles and their interactions to the theory of gravity.

Basically, holographic duality holds that the theory of gravity and the theory of particles are equivalent, at least mathematically. So what happens mathematically in the theory of gravity also happens in the theory of particles.

In general, these two theories are said to describe different dimensions. Gravity describes a three-dimensional scope, whereas particle theory consists of only two dimensions.

The researchers hope research into these two concepts can help them understand what lies inside black holes.

A researcher at the University of Michigan, Enrico Rinaldi, is focusing on these two theories in his new study.

“In Einstein’s theory of General Relativity, there are no particles, only space-time. And in the Standard Model of particle physics, there is no gravity, there are only particles,” he said, as quoted by BGR.

“Connecting two different theories is a long-standing problem in physics—something people have been trying to do since the last century.”

By linking the two theories, and using a quantum matrix model, Rinaldi and other research members were able to investigate the duality of holography.

The way they are trying to do this is to combine what is known about the theory of particles and what the theory of gravity is against.

First, they used a simple matrix model consisting of blocks of numbers. It is the standard framework used in quantum computers in which particle theory is represented by one-dimensional strings.

This initial process usually helps researchers find the ground state, which Rinaldi says is important because it allows you to make something out of it.

Using their model, the researchers are said to be able to describe what gravity looks like inside a black hole.

When you hear the term hologram, you likely think of the holographic communicator from science fiction films like Star Wars. However, in this case, Rinaldi and his co-authors call the hologram they mean the way the inside of a black hole meets the outside.

Because the interior of a black hole does not conform to the theory of gravity, it is represented in 3D space as space and time move through it.

However, on the surface, black holes appear two-dimensional. This gives a holographic appearance because these celestial objects do not look like 3D objects. This is because particle theory does not work in three-dimensional space.

Therefore, some people believe that the rest of the universe can work the same way. However, there is currently no supporting evidence to support this assumption.
