A pastor who murdered and buried his wife in the Philippines has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

On the 14th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Nah Sang-hoon) sentenced A (63), who was arrested and indicted on charges such as murder, to 18 years in prison. The judge explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, “It is an accidental crime and the victim’s family is pleading for mercy, but a crime that takes away life requires severe punishment in that the act cannot be undone.”

Mr. A is suspected of beating and killing his wife with a blunt instrument after an argument in the Philippines on August 25 last year while doing pastoral activities, wrapping the body in plastic and burying it in the front yard of the house.

After committing the crime, Mr. A went to the Korean Embassy in the Philippines and turned himself in. Prosecutors sought 30 years in prison for him.
