Filipe Luís was Gabigol’s roommate at Flamengo
After four and a half years at Flamengo, Filipe Luís ended his cycle at the club and also his career, at the age of 38. Now, the former full-back enjoys the first days of the new phase of his life, remembering the moments he lived in Item-Black. On Friday (08), the former player participated in the ‘Charla Podcast’ and told details of what his relationship with Gabigol was like on a daily basis, from the difficulties in the relationship to the attacker’s confidence before matches.
— He’s a guy with few friends, because he’s direct, he won’t lie that he likes you and talk bad behind your back. But I understand that about him perfectly. He says things to your face, sometimes he makes you think, but sometimes he doesn’t. And many times in training we had clashes. Firstly because we are very competitive, but some words in training, swearing — said Filipe Luís.
— Gabigol speaks the truth, I speak mine, he starts attacking, the coach separates him, lets it cool down, a few weeks pass, and I have to talk to him. He never apologizes. I go to him and he says: ‘it’s gone for me, you don’t even have to apologize’. But four years with him was wonderful. Of course, there are ups and downs — added Filipe Luís.
After the game against Cuiabá, last Sunday (03), Filipe Luís also spoke about Gabigol, remembering the discussions and the partnership in the training room. However, on ‘Charla Podcast’, the former Flamengo full-back also revealed details of the confidence that the number 10 gave to the team and a ‘joke’ on ‘Filipinho’s’ birthday.

In one of the most important games of Flamengo’s journey to the 2019 Libertadores, Gabigol ‘resolved’ the clash against Emelec (EQU), in the round of 16. After losing 2-0 in the first leg, Mengão needed to reverse the score to take penalties. Then, Filipe Luís recalled a promise from the attacker.
— Gabigol is very decisive. He really believes in his head that he will score a goal in the end. And he speaks. Against Emelec, in the round of 16 of the Libertadores, he said: ‘I’m going to do two. Then the team has to do one more.’ He has this greatness inside him — commented Filipe Luís.

But Gabigol is also known for his irony. On August 9, 2020, in Domènec Torrent’s debut, Flamengo lost to Atlético-MG, at Mineirão, with an own goal from Filipe Luís. What do we expect at this moment? A piece of advice, a shoulder to lean on, words of comfort… But the full-back had to put up with the attacker’s mockery.
— My only own goal, in the game against Atlético-MG, on my birthday. I was doing well in the game and I scored the own goal. I arrive in the dressing room, and Gabi says to me: ‘Congratulations, what a great goal. What a birthday. 1-0, with a goal against you, is a reason to celebrate, let’s celebrate — concluded Filipe Luís.
