Top favorites Braunschweig have been annoyed for a long time
After the leader HC Empor Rostock, the second place, MTV Braunschweig, only took both points away from Tegelsbarg in the last quarter of an hour. Coach Matthias Steinkamp’s team got off to a bombshell with a 4-0 win in the 10th minute, which resulted in the guests taking a timeout. But the hosts kept a clear head and exploited their chances well through compact defensive work. The SG went into the break with a score of 14:11.
“At the start of the game, the team was able to implement head coach Matthias Steinkamp’s instructions from the training week 1:1. Thanks to a hard-working 6-0 defense in which we found an answer to almost everything, we managed to keep the second-placed team without scoring for ten minutes,” said coach Sören Priebs in praiseworthy words. “At the same time, we were able to score some easy goals in attack, especially through the interaction between the backcourt and the circle.”AdvertisementAdvertisementCoach Matthias Steinkamp at the team time-out

The Braunschweigers found their way into the game better and better, while the Hamburgers failed to match their performance in the first half. MTV repeatedly equalized Hamburg’s lead and took the lead in the 41st minute with 18:17. Now it was SG Hamburg-Nord that was behind. Until Friedrich Kilias made it 19:19 (43rd) with a seven-meter penalty, the game remained on equal terms, but then the guests scored three goals in a row to make it 22:19 (45th). No matter what the Hamburgers tried, the Braunschweigers had a suitable answer and in the end they won clearly with 31:24.
“Despite another first-class performance from our goalkeeper Justin Rundt, we lost tension in the final quarter of an hour and had to let Braunschweig pull away. We congratulate MTV on a very mature performance and a well-deserved away win,” Priebs said at the end, relatively satisfied despite the defeat.Goal scorer for SG Hamburg-Nord
