Happy news for Filip Stanic early on Friday evening: The 23-year-old center of Bundesliga basketball team s.Oliver Würzburg was appointed to the squad for Germany’s World Cup qualifiers at the end of November by the new national coach Gordon Herbert. Born in Berlin, who played in Oldenburg and Chemnitz before moving to the Baskets, he attracted attention with his increasingly strong appearances recently.
Newcomer Stanic recently showed his best performance in a basket-shirt against FC Bayern Munich, when the Würzburg team won with a sensational 20 points difference (90:70). Stanic, trained in the youth department of Alba Berlin, put on a so-called double-double with 17 points and eleven rebounds and led the baskets to a surprise success together with the top scorer of the game, William Buford (23 points), Cameron Hunt and Desi Rodriguez. In his 17 minutes in each of the seven games so far this season, Stanic averaged 7.1 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds.
Almost exactly a year ago, the 2.06 meter man Stanic, who weighs 115 kilos and is affectionately called “colleague refrigerator” by his club coach Denis Wucherer, was appointed to the national team for the first time by the then national coach Henrik Rödl. However, he did not make it into the Olympic squad.
The NBA stars are not available
Rödl’s successor Herbert has now appointed a total of 20 players, the majority with four players from Brose Bamberg. The DBB selection, which will meet in Nuremberg on Monday, November 22nd, will play in the World Cup qualification on Thursday, November 25th (7pm), in Nuremberg against Estonia and three days later on Sunday (8pm) in Lublin against Poland. The German national players from the NBA will not be available, and the players of the Euroleague participants will probably be able to join the national team on Friday 26 November at the earliest. Which of course increases Stanic’s chances of making at least his third international match.
?? We invited a little more players than normal because of the pandemic. Maybe there will be new situations in this regard over the next two weekends “, Herbert is quoted on the association’s homepage:” I’m looking forward to working with the players and getting started. ??
