This season’s NHL premiere involved a double encounter between the Nashville Predators and the San Jose Sharks in Prague. Nashville won 4-1 on Friday and a quick comeback is expected on Saturday.
Then it was San Jose who took the lead after Luke Kunin’s power play goal just under a quarter into the game. In the second period, new Nashville forward Nino Niederreiter was able to score for the second straight game when he equalized. But just ten seconds later, San Jose regained the lead thanks to team captain Logan Couture.
Then Filip Forsberg opened his goal tally for the NHL season when he intercepted his own rebound behind goal and scored 2-2 via kökvägen. The scorer who has 43 goals in one season as the best record (since last season) is hoping to reach the magical milestone of 50 goals.
– It is a long way to go, but it is clear that it would be a dream to reach it. But it’s a tough championship and not many get there, but it’s probably not impossible, Forsberg tells Viaplay.
Strong Swiss roast
Before the end of the second period, Nashville took the lead thanks to hot Swiss Nino Niederreiter who scored 3-2 after a delightful transformation. His third goal in two games.
San Jose pressed into the Nashville goal and shot almost twice as many (33-18), but goalkeeper Kevin Lankinen held out and “kept second”. Thus, Nashville had a good start to the NHL season with double wins against San Jose in Prague.
– Today they were better, I don’t think we’ll really be up to it. But a good second period set the tone, then Lankinen was fantastic on goal in the third period, Forsberg tells Viaplay.
