Mohamed Al-Shari’i, former CFO of the Confederation of African Football, spoke about corruption in the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which caused the suspension of Ahmed Ahmed, the president of the federation.
Al-Shari’i said, “I felt that I did a big thing and proved my point of view with Amr Fahmy, may God have mercy on him. We went out to uncover corruption, although some knew that corruption existed, but (eating live) prevented them from fighting it.”
“Amr Fahmy was ready to sacrifice everything to make the African Union better and develop it, as well as me,” he added on the Sada Al-Balad channel. “We did not imagine that the decision to suspend Ahmed Ahmed would be issued, and this happened on his daughter’s birthday.”
Al-Shari’i revealed some of the details of corruption in CAF, saying: “From January 21, 2019, we knew a sufficient trend and that there was no Egyptian control or protection even though it was on Egyptian soil, which ended with the abandonment of 7 Egyptians in the African Union who did not receive their financial dues, most of them Raise issues like Amr and I did. “
He added what was up to state agencies that these people must be eliminated, as happened with Issa Hayatou, the former president of the Union, and then we felt the attempt to exclude us from the African Union as well.
“Ahmed Ahmed, through his deputies and members of the Executive Council, sought to distribute $ 140 million, which remained from the Isa Hayatou stage, to the continental federations, in order to ensure the loyalty of the federations’ leaders,” he said.
He continued, “I rejected with Amr Ahmed Ahmed’s decision to transfer 20% to the personal accounts of the heads of the federations, and informed him orally that this was a bribe and an act that he would not accept. We sent letters to the heads of federations explaining how to disbursement, 20% to the president of the federation, 30% administrative expenses, 50% to promote a level of youth And ladies. “
“Ahmed Ahmed began to intervene and request special transfers for the heads of federations such as the Comoros and Namibia, and they were included in the complaint, and the president of the Namibian federation was arrested for two years. Wadih al-Jarji, head of the Tunisian federation at the time, requested the same thing to transfer funds to his personal account as well, and we refused.”
He continued, “Amr Fahmy also spoke about sexual harassment, and that is a well-known story. There is a woman who brought a case against Ahmed Ahmed in England.”
Ahmed Ahmed held meetings in Egypt and called 18 union leaders and members of his office in Madagascar, then 17 people traveled with him to the Umrah trip and all this was at the expense of the African Union and they returned to Egypt a day or two and all this is wrong because you spend money on things that are not related to football or the African Union”.
He continued, “He also formed a committee of 3 members, including Faouzi Lakja, Hani Abu Raida, and Constant Omari, the current president of the federation, with La Gardier, to discuss increasing the minimum financially after increasing the number of teams participating in the recent 2019 African Cup of Nations, and Amr Fahmy was unable to attend due to his illness at the time.”
He concluded, “Amr was sacked due to the Tactical Steel contract crisis, which he raised at the time.”
