FilGoal | News | Telegraph: The English Premier League may be played without fans instead of abolishing it

The English Premier League has discussed with the English Football Association all possible scenarios for the current league season, due to concerns over the spread of the Coruna virus. According to a report published by the British newspaper “Telegraph”.

The report said that the two parties have agreed that in the worst case scenario the league will be played without fans if the Corona virus spreads.

Containment plans were discussed by officials during the past week in the event that the British government decides to end any large gatherings, as happened in Switzerland and France.

A source in the negotiations said, “The English Premier League prefers to play matches with empty stadiums if this will allow the season to complete.”

In the event that the government decides to ban rallies in a period of less than two weeks, the matches will definitely be postponed, but if the period is after a month or more, the option to play without fans will be considered.

A detailed plan for the contest will be drawn while the English Premier League said during the meeting that it had a brief perception of it.

The newspaper “Telegraph” had published a report earlier in which it said that the option to cancel the Premier League competition might be discussed for fear of the spread of Corona virus, which caused fear among Liverpool fans that this could deprive them of the Premier League title that the club would have crowned the club for the first time Times since 1990.

Liverpool is close to winning the league title this season, as it needs 12 points in order to win the title out of 10 remaining games.

The Corona virus affected more than one European and Asian country in terms of football activity, as 5 matches in the Italian League were postponed this week, including the top of the round between Juventus and Inter Milan.

Gianni Infantino, president of the International Football Association (FIFA), had said earlier that the international suspension this month may be postponed due to the spread of the virus.

The virus also caused postponement of competitions in China, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait and others, in addition to the AFC Champions League matches.

So far, 51 cases of the virus have been detected in England, and the British government is preparing to implement the contingency plan to contain the virus.
