FilGoal | News | Mehrez: Holding the Nations Cup every two years causes the world not to respect Africa

Algeria’s captain Riad Mehrez believes that holding the African Nations Cup every two years reduces the world’s respect for African football.

The tournament was held for the first time in the summer of 2019 in Egypt, before the African Union decided to return it to the winter again.

“Let’s play the African Nations Cup every 4 years and in the summer,” Mehrez said in a live broadcast on Instagram.

The Manchester City Pavilion added, “As for her holding her winter every two years, this is the reason African football is not respected by the world.”

“Every African player plays a lot of matches with his club, and then he has to be absent for two months in the middle of the season because of the nations of Africa.”

The next edition of the African Nations Cup will be held next January in Cameroon.

The 2019 African Nations Champion stressed his view by saying, “We loved Egypt last summer, the weather was not very hot.”

Algeria won its first title since 1990 by beating Senegal in the final in the Cairo Stadium.
