Manchester United issued a statement announcing full knowledge of the alleged incident in which its captain Harry Maguire was involved, at dawn on Friday on the island of Mykonos in Greece.
The text of the statement reads as follows: “Manchester United is aware of the incident in which Harry Maguire is alleged to have been involved last night.”
The statement continued: “Harry has been contacted, and he is fully cooperating with the authorities in Greece now.”
“We will not make any additional comment at the moment,” he said.
What happened?
Maguire got involved in a heated argument with English tourists outside a bar at dawn on Friday, Greek police intervened to resolve the dispute before it turned into a fight, but the Manchester United captain refused to intervene and the police tried to control the player’s anger, but he resisted the authorities. According to the Greek newspaper “Porto Thema”, Maguire was arrested after being tied due to resistance from the authorities, and he was escorted with the British tourists to the police headquarters.
The Manchester United captain is spending his vacation away from England after the end of the football season, after Manchester United bid farewell to the European League Championship in the semi-finals against Seville by losing 2-1.
Manchester United will play its first match in the Premier League in the second round, after its match in the first round against Burnley was postponed, and the second round begins on September 19.
