Honoring Maradona before the return of sports activity in Argentina
Argentine football is back to life again, and nothing better than Diego Armando Maradona celebrating his 60th birthday on the field and his team winning a hat-trick for nothing.
The ball in Argentina returned again through the Argentine League Cup, as the competition opened with a gathering of Jiminacia La Plata, led by Maradona and Patronato.
Jiminasia scored the first three points in the tournament, in a match that saw a special honor from the Argentine Federation for Maradona before kick-off.
The match also witnessed honoring the medical staff in gratitude for their recent efforts to combat Corona virus.
And sporting activity in Argentina was stopped in mid-March, then the season was canceled in April due to the difficulty of resuming the Argentine League Cup, which was suspended before the end of the first round matches due to the Corona virus.
The Argentine Federation introduced a new system for the competition by dividing the 24 clubs that participated in the league last season into 6 groups, and then into playoffs. The champion of the competition will qualify for the 2021 Copa Libertadores edition.
The Argentine Federation canceled relegation for two seasons in local football, which means that Maradona’s squad has not been relegated to the second division.
