Juventus, Atalanta and Lazio avoided surprises in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup and booked their places in the quarter-finals by beating Spezia, Bologna and Monza, respectively.
Milan and Napoli left the competition early, losing to Turin and Cremonense, respectively.
Thus, the quarter-finals were completed: Juventus – Inter – Rome – Lazio – Atalanta – Fiorentina – Turin – Cremonese.
Juventus and Lazio became the only two teams to have participated in 12 consecutive editions of the 8th round of the Italian Cup since the 2011-12 season.
And now to the results of today’s matches:
Atlanta x Spezia
At the Joyce Stadium, Atalanta crushed its guest, Spezia, 5-2.
Atalanta took the lead early with a double by Ademola Lockman in the 10th and 12th minutes, and the Swedish Elbin Ekdal reduced the score in the 14th minute.
Dutch full-back Hans Hattebober scored Atalanta’s third goal in the 26th minute.
Spezia winger Daniele Verdi scored the second goal for his team, making the score 3-2 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, young Dane Ramsos Hoyland scored the fourth goal for Atalanta, and for the fourth consecutive match, in the 74th minute.
In the 90th minute, Welshman Ethan Empado finished the match with an own goal.
Lazio x Bologna
At the Olympic Stadium, the Eagles won with an unanswered goal from Pedro’s industry and Felipe Anderson’s scoring.
Pedro took advantage of the defender’s mistake and passed a cross to the Brazilian, who scored easily in the net in the 32nd minute.
Milinkovic Savic missed the opportunity to score the second goal with a header that went over the crossbar at the start of the second half.
Skorobski, the goalkeeper of the guests, shone in blocking a shot from Anderson in the 68th minute, so the score remained the same and the Eagles qualified.
Juventus x Monza
Juventus avoided a double surprise, by not suffering a loss from Monza for the second time this season, and not saying goodbye to the cup early.
Moise Kean took the lead early in the eighth minute, the young Italian headed Weston McKinney’s cross into the net.
Mattia Vallotti responded with the equalizer in the 25th minute with a powerful header past Mattia Perin.
And 12 minutes before the end of the match, Federico Chiesa scored a wonderful goal after a solo effort and a curved shot from inside the area that hit the net, announcing the qualification of the old lady.
A goal that broke his goalscoring fast, which lasted 378 days.
