Freiburg beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 at the Schwarzwald Stadion Stadium by opening round 30 of the German Bundesliga.
Nils Petersen scored the game’s only goal seconds after he entered the field, raising his team’s Freiburg balance to 41 points in eighth place.
While the Moenchengladbach balance was frozen at 56 points in fourth place, and threatened to lose it in favor of Bayer Leverkusen with the same balance.
The victory is the first for Freiburg since the resumption of sports activity after two draws and two defeats in 4 games.
The Mönchengladbach complex was also confirmed, as during the history of their confrontations in the German League, only a winner in his visits to the Freiburg stadium in March 2002.
Mönchengladbach, who is competing to qualify for the Champions League, completely dominated the first half, grabbed the ball, and threatened Freiburg’s goal.
In the 26th minute Florian Newhouse went alone against Freiburg, but goalkeeper Alexander Shoflov saved his shot, bouncing back to Patrick Hermann who hit the empty goal, but the infiltrated Newhouse touched the ball on its way to the net, causing the goal to be canceled, and lost his team’s lead twice in one shot.
In the second half, the punishment came, after Freiburg coach Christian Streich pushed his golden substitute Nils Petersen in the 57th minute.
And only 67 seconds was all that Petersen needed to score the only goal of the game with a header, hitting the Monchengladbach net.
Petersen raised his score from 10 goals this season, and also scored his 86th goal in the Freiburg jersey.
Bayern Munich’s former striker has been the historical striker for Freiburg for several months, beating Joachim Loew, who has the 83 goals.
Petersen also scored his 24th goal in his career in the German league after entering the substitute, to be the best alternative scorer in the history of the competition.
The troubles of Mönchengladbach continued, when its striker El Hassan Belya secured a second yellow card in the 68th minute, leaving the stadium for a dismissal.
In the end, after the referee whistled, the Freiburg coach Streich celebrated this victory madly, and the health protocol broke hugging and touching everything that came his way, while the Moenchengladb people collapsed in tears after they threatened to not qualify for the Champions League.
