Mohamed Sanad scored a goal for Egypt against Macedonia in the World Hand Cup
Egypt coach Roberto Barondo expressed his pride in the team’s performance and the fight to the last second against World Championship holder Denmark.
Egypt lost to Denmark in the quarter-finals of the 27th World Championship, with a score of 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after the end of the original time, and four additional games in a 35-35 draw.
“I have nothing to say specifically after this match,” Barondo said at the press conference.
“We were playing against the world champion, certainly Denmark is a very strong team, but we were not lucky in the end and lost on penalties,” he added.
“I’m proud of what the players did until the last second and fight to the end,” Barondo added.
He stressed, “We played against a strong team that is the world champion until the present moment, and the only team that has not lost or tied any games in this edition so far.”
And the Spanish coach continued, “The time is not right now to analyze the match and talk about mistakes. We played an extra 20 minutes, and certainly the players were exhausted, but I am happy with the strong and wonderful performance.”
“My goal now is to continue developing for the sake of the future. We have a strong team that has succeeded in competing with the world’s top players,” he concluded.
While Mohamed Sanad, the Egyptian national team player, said: “I have no comment to say,” he is very disappointed to lose a match like this after our performance. “
He stressed, “We do not deserve to lose, but sports must win and lose, and luck did not join us at the end of the match.”
He explained, “The whole world has seen the strength of Egypt now and the great role that we played in the tournament. I am very proud of the players and the technical staff. Everyone was responsible.”
And about Denmark’s surprise inside the stadium, he revealed, “We know very well that Denmark is a strong team and the world champion, but we are also a good team and can compete, so we entered the meeting and our goal was to win only, but it was not completed.”
He concluded his remarks, “No one can be blamed for grief over the next two days, but I trust our ability to return to glory and prepare for the Olympics to provide a better performance.”
