Ahmed Hassan, the former star of Egypt, Ismaili, Al-Ahly and Zamalek, revealed that he was close to wearing the red shirt in 1993, but the club refused to buy it for 7 thousand pounds.
Al-Saqr said on Ontime Sports Channel: “I moved to Aswan from Maghagha Youth Center for 11 thousand pounds (in 1993), and Al-Ahly at the time refused to pay 7 thousand pounds for my purchase.”
The 4-time African Cup champion with the Pharaohs added, “Al-Ahly did not pay more than 5,000 pounds to a young player. On the channel, Captain Salah Abu Greisha was not convinced of me.”
Hassan, 45, continued, “I played in Aswan for 10 months, and after that Al-Ahly asked me for 120 thousand pounds, but Ismaily settled the deal with a quarter of a million pounds.”
He completed, “And I started a professional journey with Turkish Kocaeli, for $ 400,000.”
Al-Saqr was a player in the Egyptian national team, a member of the Ismaili Club, and participated in the 1996 and 1998 African Cups.
He played in Turkey for 8 seasons, then spent two years with the Belgian Anderlecht before returning to Egypt from Al-Ahly gate in 2008.
Hassan wore the Zamalek shirt for two years before hanging his shoes in 2013.
Hassan, the former midfielder of Egypt, is the most popular player in football history to have participated in international matches certified by FIFA.
He represented Egypt in 184 matches and scored 33 goals.
