Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal is over.
And the revolution is still going on in Barcelona after the earthquake, losing Bayern Munich 8-2 in the Champions League quarter-finals.
After the departure of coach Quique Setien, Barcelona announced on its official website that they thanked Abidal for his tenure at the club and terminated the contract between them by mutual consent between the two parties.
Barcelona appointed Abidal as football manager in June 2018 to succeed Roberto Fernandez.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported on Saturday that his days are numbered after losing to Bayern because of his responsibility to sign with Setien.
She stated that Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu wanted to sign coach Mauricio Pochettino last January, but he trusted Abidal, who supported Quique Setien and believed in his project.
She noted that despite the humiliating loss against Bayern, Abidal defended Setien again.
Abidal was involved in disagreements during the current season with Barcelona players, headed by Lionel Messi, captain of the team, after he stated that some players had refused the departure of coach Ernesto Valverde.
He was also criticized for failing to recruit a great striker during the winter transfer market to replace the injured Luis Suarez.
