File an appeal, the Attorney General’s Office will support Ferdy Sambo’s death sentence

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Attorney General’s Office appealed the verdicts against the defendants for premeditated murder, Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J, Freddy Sambo et al. In the memory of the appeal filed, the Attorney General’s Office will emphasize that the sentences handed down to the defendants are correct and appropriate.

Ketut said the public prosecutor would also prepare a document against the appeal memorandum. The document, he said, would contain a rebuttal to the contents of the defendant’s appeal memory. “We will dispute the contents of the defendant’s appeal memory,” he said.

Council of Judges South Jakarta District Court sentenced Ferdy Sambo to death in court on Monday, February 13, 2023. The sentence was heavier than the prosecutor’s demand, namely life imprisonment. Sentences that were heavier than the demands were also handed down to the other three defendants.

Sambo’s wife Princess Candrawathi was sentenced to 20 years in prison from the demands of the prosecutor, which is 8 years in prison. Meanwhile, Sambo’s domestic worker, Strong Ma’ruf, was sentenced to 15 years in prison from the prosecutor’s demand of 8 years in prison. Sambo’s former adjutant, Ricky Rizal, was also given a more severe sentence, namely 13 years in prison instead of the prosecutor’s demand of 8 years in prison. A lighter sentence was only received by Sambo’s former adjutant, Richard Eliezer. Richard was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Much lighter than the prosecutor’s demands, namely 12 years in prison.

Both Richard and the prosecutor’s office did not appeal, so the verdict is final. Meanwhile, Sambo and three other defendants decided to appeal. In response to the four defendants’ appeals, attorney General’s Office also filed an appeal.
