In 2018, five years after his playing career ended, Grant Hill signed a lifetime contract with Fila. The time not having any more for the development of “signature” shoes, the brand suggested to the former winger to have a different impact, by investing in particular in the renovation of playgrounds in the United States.
After a first joint operation which allowed the renovation of playgrounds on the side of Hillside Park, in Durham, where Grant Hill played for four years at Duke University, it is on the side of Detroit, another stronghold of the player’s career, that the “Chipmunk & Grant Hill Foundation” and Fila have joined forces.
The initiative, in association with the city and the association “Chandler Park Conservancy”, allowed the entire reconstruction of playing fields which thus benefit from new surfaces, in blue, red and orange (inspired by the jersey of the Pistons of the Grant Hill era), as well as new signs and circles.
The Fila and Grant Hill logos are present in white, as is the number 33, worn by Grant Hill in Detroit.
“After the review of the past year and a half, it is a welcome respite to offer a little positivity and lightness to the community of Chandler Park. At a time when it is particularly important to stay physically active, we wanted to create a safe and pleasant space, just in time for the start of the school year ”Newly appointed Team USA manager Grant Hill said in a statement. “I have spent much of my professional career in Detroit and I am very proud of this city, with lasting memories of my days here and of the welcome I have received since. I am excited to show my gratitude to the community, while giving these children an opportunity to step out and set them on a path to a bright future ”.
