Los Veracruz Health Services (Sesver) and the hospital network of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the entity have registered admissions of patients with some sequelae derived from Covid-19in which cases of women requiring medical treatment predominate.
Between 2021 and 2022, the State Health Secretariat, through Sesvertreated 40 cases of sequelae associated with Covid-19, of which 38 were classified as a “post-Covid-19 health condition”” and 2 cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with Covid-19.

How many cases were registered in 2021?
Within the aforementioned period, the year 2021 is where the largest number of patients treated by Sesver have been registered, due to post-covid sequelae, adding 38 hospital admissions; while in 2022 there were 13 cases.
Of 13 patients registered between January and November 2022, four patients were treated at the Poza Rica regional hospital, three at the “Dr. Rafael Lucio” in Xalapa.
While the regional hospital of Xalapa “Dr. Luis F. Nachón”, the Río Blanco hospital, the High Specialty Hospital of Veracruz, as well as the general hospitals of Tlalixcoyan and Altotongaattended one case, each one.
The medical procedures applied in patients with post-covid conditions registered in the health service hospitals of Veracruz, between 2021 and 2022, totaled 38 diagnoses, 24 therapeutic treatments and three surgical procedures.
The medical care provided to the patients consisted of: assessment by the multidisciplinary team of the Covid area, upon admission they underwent the rapid nasopharyngeal swab test (antigen test) and in some cases PCR test.
The state agency details, through the information card SESVER/DAM/086/2023, that all cases were supplied with supplemental oxygen and, depending on the severity, they were admitted to the intensive care unit.

On hospital admission and during his stay, laboratory studies were performed: complete blood count, complete blood chemistry, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, lactic dehydrogenase, liver function tests, ferritin, coagulation times, serum electrolytes, arterial blood gases.
From cabinet studies: Simple chest X-ray and simple chest tomography, 12-lead electrocardiogram (if applicable).
What treatments are offered for Covid sequelae?
Within the medical support treatment offered are the intravenous solutions, steroid anti-inflammatories, anticoagulants, antipyretics, cough suppressants, mucolytics, bronchodilators, analgesics, antibiotics (depending on the case) and in specific patients and hospitals it was provided as emergency therapy and after evaluation and individualization of the Rendesivir case.
After the care of the seriously ill patient, they were referred to the CAME C19 (Expanded Medical Care Centers), where they were given physical and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for their recovery prior to their home discharge.
As part of home rehabilitation, supplemental oxygen was provided at home, a medical appointment for reassessment and follow-up, advice on cardiopulmonary rehabilitation therapy, and Pharmacotherapy individualized according to the comorbidities of each patient and current status at discharge.
PFor its part, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), in the 2020 period, through the medical units of the Veracruz Norte and Veracruz Sur delegations, treated 31 patients for sequelae associated with Covid-19, of which 14 They are men and 17 women.
A total of 17 people were treated at the General Hospital 14 of Veracruz; in the general hospital 28 of Córdoba (four patients); at clinic 50 in Lerdo de Tejada (3); at the José Cardel General Hospital (two cases); in the regional general hospital of Orizaba (2), Tuxpan (1), in general hospital 11 of Xalapa (1) and El Potrero (1)

The condition was classified as a post-Covid-19 health condition (Covid-19 sequelae). The IMSS reports that the definitive annual statistical version on sequelae associated with Covid-19 for 2022 will be available in June of this year.
