Fighting the Covid-19 Pandemic Must Be Without Vaccines

WHO’s director of emergencies, Michael Ryan, said a vaccine would not arrive in time to tackle the second wave of the pandemic.

RAKYATKU.COM – The world health organization, WHO, says vaccines should not be seen as the ultimate solution to dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

WHO’s director of emergencies, Michael Ryan, said a vaccine would not arrive in time to tackle the second wave of the pandemic.

Indeed, there are vaccines made by pharmaceutical companies and promises efficacy levels above 90 percent. However, Ryan said, many countries will experience the second wave and go through it without vaccines.

“We need to understand and internalize it, and realize: We have to climb the mountain this time, without vaccines,” he said broadcast by AFP on Thursday (19/11/2020).

Pfizer said it had completed development of a vaccine that yielded a 95 percent effectiveness rate against Covid-19.

There is also Moderna who said their vaccine candidate was 94.5 percent effective, while the Russian-made vaccine was claimed to be 90 percent effective.

“Some people think a vaccine will, in a sense, be a solution, a unicorn we all chase. It’s not like that,” he said.

“If we have vaccines and forget about other things, Covid will not be zero,” he said again.
