Fighting Russian Lancet Drones: Strategies, Solutions, and Air Defense Systems in Europe

The Lancet drone is essentially a copy of the Israeli drone. The Israelis are the most advanced drone manufacturers in the world. But the quality of the Lancet is very poor. Now that the Russians are getting parts from China, Lancet quality is improving. Lancet optics were especially bad – the Ukrainians could make simple wooden decoys and the Russians, believing them to be real, fired at them. Now that Lancet optics are getting better and have high resolution cameras, Ukrainian decoys have to get a lot better too.

How to fight Lancet? The best way is to bomb the drone factory. NATO would do so. Since Ukraine does not have cruise missiles to do this, the next best way is to kill the drone operators. But there are many of them. The third best way is to shoot down the drones. If you have a self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon that can shoot down drones, Lancet drones will no longer be a problem. As soon as the drone appears on the radar, the self-propelled gun will eliminate the drone. Ukraine has about 50 Cheetahs, which they received from the Germans. But for the Ukrainians to be able to fully protect their cities and units at the front, about a thousand would be needed.

Who has the most air defense systems of this type in Europe? Romania looks like 38 and Finland looks like seven or eight. Others, such as the Italian army, do not have them. The Germans don’t, the French don’t, the British don’t.
