Pay attention to the consumption of salt, sugar and fat to fight obesity.

GridHEALTH.id– In commemoration of National Health Day as well as World Diabetes Day 2021, Nutrifood together with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) of the Republic of Indonesia educate the Indonesian people through the 2021 ‘Beat Obesity’ Community Festival.

This program aims to educate people to live healthier lives, especially during this pandemic, by limiting sugar intake and understanding better sources of sweeteners to avoid the risk of obesity and diabetes.

“Lifestyle changes during the pandemic, such as excessive sugar consumption and reduced physical activity, have the potential to increase the risk of obesity.

We all know that obesity has a risk of prediabetes and diabetes where almost 90% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese,” said Elvieda Sariwati, M.Epid, Acting Director of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control (P2PTM), Ministry of RI Health.

Marya Haryono, MGizi, SpGK, FINEM, Clinical Nutrition Specialist explained, “Excess sugar consumption contributes to high calorie intake which can increase the risk of obesity and diabetes.

Unfortunately, people still tend to consume high amounts of sugar, both from adding sugar when cooking, eating and drinking as well as through the consumption of sugary foods and drinks that are high in sugar.”

The public should also be wary of the sugar content contained in packaged foods and beverages.
