The US is fully hit by the pandemic. The contagion curve is now growing at a rate of 150-170 thousand cases per day. The most alarming number is that of hospitalized: 88,000 yesterday; the average of the last 14 days has risen by 48%. «More than 260,000 Americans have died – said Biden – and I address the families who have lost their loved ones. I know what it means to be at the table with an empty chair, especially on a day like this ».

The new leader is now asking to close the divisions: «The battle is over, we are not at war with each other, we are all at war against this virus. The federal government will do whatever is necessary. The vaccines are on the way. Eventually we will also overcome this crisis. But in the meantime, we must all do our part. Let’s not give in to fatigue. Wear a mask, because it is an act of patriotism ».

However, many people are already on their way, as images of crowded airports show. Biden’s appeal seems a bit out of phase: “We will stay at home this year. There will be only four of us: me, my wife Jill, my daughter and my son-in-law. It is a necessary sacrifice ».

Donald Trump, on the other hand, has for weeks stopped addressing the country. With a small circle of loyalists, he continues to claim victory. Yesterday, the incumbent president canceled a flash trip to Gettysburg, USA at the last minute Pennsylvania, where he was supposed to meet a group of Republicans to continue the campaign to contest the vote. Just yesterday, however, the authorities certified the result, confirming Biden’s advantage (about 80 thousand cards) and officially closing the game here too.
