The battle is reported to have broken out again in Panjshir Valley on Saturday (4/9), after Taliban claimed to have succeeded in seizing the only area in Afghanistan which they have not conquered.
The anti-Taliban forces in Panjshir, which call themselves the National Resistance Front (NRF), admit that they have begun to despair, but resistance continues.
“The situation is very difficult. We were invaded. The resistance is still ongoing and will continue,” said former Afghan vice president who joined the NRF, Amrullah Saleh, as quoted AFP.
According to the Taliban and the NRF on social networks, the main district in the Panjshir Valley, Paryan, has changed hands several times in the past week. However, these claims cannot be independently verified.
While the NRF claims fighting is still continuing, Taliban members in various parts of Afghanistan are already celebrating victory.
On the streets of Kabul and Nangarhar, Taliban members opened fire in the air to celebrate their group’s victory.
As a result of the celebrations using gunfire, at least 17 people were reported killed, while more than 40 others were also injured.
Hearing this report, the main spokesman for the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, appealed to its members not to celebrate victory by firing into the air.
“Avoid firing shots in the air and just thank God. Bullets can injure civilians, so don’t shoot unnecessarily,” Mujahid said as quoted by Reuters.
The Taliban often fire in the air to celebrate victory. Shortly after the United States left Afghanistan earlier this week, the Taliban also opened fire on various roads.
