Fighting and Recovering from Lymphoma Cancer: Hans’ Inspiring Journey

Jakarta

Recently, the story of a man named Hans (21) went viral who successfully fought lymphoma cancer. The reason is, who now lives in Tangerang has experienced the initial symptoms of frequent ‘incontinence’ or urinating since 2017 when he was still in junior high school.

The man who is currently studying in Bandung also experienced drastic weight loss which made him look very thin. As a result, the man who is now 21 years old decided to go to the doctor to have himself checked. Initially, the doctor diagnosed Hans with a hernia because there was a lump on the left side of his stomach.

“Then I tried to get it checked on an ultrasound and was referred again to oncology, where he saw, ‘It doesn’t look like it’s a hernia’. He was told to go ahead for a CT scan and biopsy,” he added, when contacted. detikcomMonday (23/10/2023).

At that time, Hans experienced several difficulties in undergoing a CT scan and biopsy because the queues were full at a number of hospitals. Finally, he decided to go to Singapore to undergo further examination. The results of the PET CT Scan said that there was an abnormal lump that had spread to the upper abdomen.

The next day, Hans immediately underwent a biopsy after discovering an abnormal lump in his stomach. According to him, this method is used to determine cell development and determine future care or treatments.

“Well, what do you know and then the doctor said that it looks like chemotherapy is necessary. Actually, it is also possible if the cancer or tumor is removed directly with surgery. However, the doctor doesn’t dare to guarantee it, it could be a major operation because it really has a lot of position in the body. He doesn’t “I can guarantee that you will recover 100 percent if you have surgery because there will definitely be something missing,” he said.

He should have undergone chemotherapy eight times. However, during the fourth chemotherapy, the doctor said that the cancer cells in his body were no longer visible. Because of this, he only underwent six chemotherapy procedures to ensure that the cancer cells were completely ‘cleaned’ from his body.

“About 5 years since I suffered from it and finally recovered completely. The doctor also said there was no need to come to the hospital again,” he concluded.

What is Lymphoma Cancer?

Quoted from Mayo Cliniclymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is the part of the body’s tissue that fights germs.

The lymphatic system includes the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland, and bone marrow. Lymphoma can affect all of these areas as well as other organs throughout the body.

Quoted from the UPK of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), lymphoma is divided into two, namely Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hodgkin’s lymphoma occurs due to a mutation in B cells in the lymphatic system, with detection results in the presence of abnormal Reed-Stenberg cells in the cancer cells. Meanwhile, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma occurs due to DNA mutations in B cells and T cells in the lymphatic system.
