The government is secretly discussing the possibility of replacing the existing fleet of 30 Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters with new aircraft from Western partners.
According to the source, French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Ukraine, is going to discuss with President Volodymyr Zelensky the possibility of supplying Rafale fighters. The French authorities believe that their apparatuses have every chance of winning the tender. Most of the costs of manufacturing and delivering them to Ukraine are ready to be covered by France, which has already allocated 1.5 billion euros to cover such a defense contract.
At the same time, there is an option with the purchase of American Boeing F / A-18 “Super Hornet” fighters. For the United States, the purchase of their devices would be a good chance to deal a serious blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin, having their own fighters near the borders of the Russian Federation.
The situation depends on which fighters the Ukrainian government will choose – light or heavy multitasking.
It is also known that the Ukrainian authorities have not yet begun the process of selling existing obsolete fighters.
