According to the Belgian newspaper, it would be a clash between a group of Afghan young people from the asylum seekers’ center in Lanaken and a group of Turkish young people from Genk. The police arrived en masse and made 19 arrests.
The confrontation took place on Saturday evening around 8 p.m. in the center of Genk. He was stabbed twice during the confrontation. Two 18-year-olds were injured. One of the two 18-year-olds was shot in the lungs. The Genk teenager was in life-threatening condition for a while, but after the victim was taken to hospital, the teenager’s condition was no longer critical.
Arrests
18 suspects were allowed to leave after identification and interrogation. A 17-year-old Afghan from Lanaken remained detained and may be brought before him.
Lanaken mayor Marino Keulen reacts fiercely to the fight. “I was in shock when I learned what had happened. It is an attempted murder. Someone could have died. This should not be without consequences.”
