There was a fight at Pius X-College high school on Tuinstraat in Bladel on Monday morning. Five people were arrested, including three students. All detainees come from the same family. The school will remain closed on Monday. The school’s 2,100 students were sent home around noon.
The fight started around half past ten with three students from the same family. When the police arrived at the school to settle the argument, the three students were arrested, including for vandalism.
When the officers walked outside with the three suspects, they encountered three adults. They also come from the same family as the students who were arrested.
The three adults wanted to “prevent” the arrest of the three students, according to a police spokesman. So two of these adults were arrested. An electroshock weapon was used when one of them was arrested.
The Rector’s Answer
According to Maarten de Veth (57), the head of the school, many students saw the fight happening. “It happened around classrooms, but also in the corridors.”
“The incident affected staff and students,” said the rector. “The students who saw them were able to tell their stories. We gave them that space.”
During the fight, other students were asked to stay in the classrooms. Their safety was ‘never in danger’, said the rector. According to him, the school will reopen on Tuesday. The police are still investigating what exactly happened.
