Fight against deforestation: More than 65 billion F to mobilize Fight against deforestation: More than 65 billion F to mobilize

Libreville, Friday March 3, 2023 (Gabon Info) – This fund, announced yesterday in Libreville on the occasion of the first edition of One Forest Summit, will make it possible to limit climate change.

This was the big announcement of this first edition of the One Forest Summit held on 1is and March 2, 2023 in Libreville, Gabon. An envelope of 100 million euros, more than 65 billion F, will be mobilized to stop deforestation and protect the planet from climate change. “We are going to put an additional 100 million euros for countries that want to accelerate their strategy to protect vital carbon and biodiversity reserves within the framework of partnerships,” announced French President Emmanuel Macron. In detail, this fund will be set up by the Walton Foundation thanks to a contribution of 20 million euros, Conservation International which intends to provide 30 million euros and France intends to disburse 50 million euros.

Through the document called “The Libreville plan” which is inspired by the recommendations of the COP27, the Heads of State and Government present at this meeting pledged to fight effectively against the uncontrolled cutting of forest species. The funding announced will make it possible to support countries that have distinguished themselves in an exemplary manner in terms of forest conservation thanks to “biodiversity certificates”. According to Emmanuel Macron, said certificates can be exchanged “as a contribution to the protection of nature” with sovereign States or with the private sector.

For their part, the researchers have initiated the “One Forest Vision Project”, the objective of which is to better appreciate the value of the Amazonian forest, the Congo Basin and the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, which are the three major forest basins of the world by mapping them in the future. Business owners present in Libreville as part of what they called One Forest Business Forum have launched an initiative with the ambition of creating ten million jobs in sustainable forest management by 2030.
