Still under construction, the future hospital forecourt will soon be called “Esplanade Martin-Malvy”. The former mayor of Figeac who has long chaired the board of directors of the hospital center has given his consent for this designation to take place. Voted unanimously, the proposal did not generate any debate or even remark within the city council.
This Monday evening, André Mellinger took care to explain the choice of this location to pay tribute to the commitment of his predecessor to the defense and development of the health establishment. “Martin Malvy was chairman of the board of directors of the hospital center for more than 30 years. He defended tooth and nail this hospital so that it could prosper” recalled André Mellinger, delighted to see the total support of the all elected officials. It was not possible, as initially announced, to baptize this square in “place Martin-Marty”. “It would then have been necessary to rename the avenue du Général de Gaulle and the avenue Fernand Pezet” confided André Mellinger who preferred to opt for the term “Esplanade” referring to the pedestrian square being developed in front of the new entrance to the center. hospital. The mayor specified that the unveiling of the plaque and the inauguration of the extension of the hospital will be organized next September in the presence of Martin Malvy.
The works of this square are soon finished. At the end of the session on Monday evening, Bernard Landes, first deputy mayor, presented an amendment of 25,000 euros to refine the development of this square with, in particular, floral gutter grids or even the removal of very damaged hedges and borders. The elected official specified that this unforeseen expenditure was offset by the credits saved of an equivalent amount on the work of recovery of the terrace of the Domaine du Surgié. The amendment was adopted unanimously.
