FIG extended sanctions against Russian gymnasts

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has announced the extension of sanctions that prevent Russian and Belarusian gymnasts from participating in international competitions under the auspices of the federation. They will be in effect “until further notice”.

“The FIG Executive Committee has decided to… extend sanctions against athletes and officials (including judges) from Russia and Belarus,” reads a press release on website FIG.

The Federation also approved the transfer of Russian gymnast Anastasia Simakova to the German national team. She has already received a German passport.

On March 4, 2022, against the background of the entry of Russian Armed Forces troops into Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian gymnasts were suspended from international competitions.
