This year, the Martigues hospital center (CHM) is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It has been half a century since the Rayettes public institution opened its doors, followed a few years later, in 1979, by the Vallon building. In the first, various services have been developed such as resuscitation, surgery, emergencies, maternity, and pediatrics. The second is, for its part, more dedicated to psychiatry and gerontology, among others.
Martigues Hospital provides care to a population of approximately 230,000 people. It currently has no fewer than 1,600 non-healthcare staff, in addition to nearly 200 doctors (including interns).
“This is one of the highest numbers of staff the centre has ever seen. (…) We have never had so many doctors working in the hospitalunderlines Loïc Mondoloni, director of the CHM since March 2021. So, we manage to attract, we know that, but today, we also have a challenge of retaining people.“
Particularly in certain “fragile” sectors, such as emergencies, imaging, pediatrics, where the lack of human resources sometimes leads to tension in services.”These are specialties to be preserved from staffing difficulties.“, maintains Loïc Mondoloni, who does not fail to point out that the hospital is certified by the High Authority of Health: “This means that we respect the standards of care“.
