The Rhône, the North or the Pas-de-Calais have a high level of birch pollen for the day of this Tuesday as well as that of Wednesday.
People allergic to birch pollen may experience some inconvenience this week. In many departments located mainly in the northeast of the country, the level of birch pollen has been presented as high for several days already by the national aerobiological monitoring network (RNSA).
About fifty departments have been placed on red alert for birch pollen, including the Rhône, the Nord, the Pas-de-Calais or the Ile-de-France and Grand Est departments.
Pollen favored by good weather
The situation should not improve this Wednesday with a still high level of pollen in these departments. Several departments in the west of France, including the Breton departments, will experience an average level.
This increase in the birch pollen rate started at the end of last week due to the return of sunny conditions over a large part of France.
“The return of good weather (…) favors the dispersion of pollen, especially that of birch”, indicated last Friday the RNSA on its Twitter account.
Regarding plane tree, cupressaceae-taxaceae and ash pollen, they will not be present too strongly this Wednesday, with only an average level in a few departments.
For grass pollen, currently in small quantities, the RNSA expects a gradual increase in their concentration by the beginning of May.
Tips to protect yourself
For people allergic to these pollens, some advice exists to protect themselves as well as possible from their effects. It is particularly recommended to ventilate your home for at least 10 minutes a day, preferably early in the morning and late in the evening, or even to rinse your hair in the evening.
It is also advisable to avoid activities that can lead to excessive exposure to these pollens, such as outdoor sports or garden maintenance. Finally, the Ministry of Solidarity and Health also calls on sensitive people not to dry their laundry outside.
