The police arrested a fifth suspect on Friday for assaulting officers during New Year’s Eve in Nieuw-Beijerland. It concerns a seventeen-year-old boy from that town, the police reported on Saturday evening.
Earlier this week, a 19-year-old man and two twenty-year-old men from the South Holland village were arrested. On Thursday, a seventeen-year-old boy from the same town was added.
During New Year’s Eve, young people pelted police officers and firefighters with heavy fireworks. Two officers suffered burns. Several officers who were pelted with fireworks have now reported the incident.
The police are also investigating riots on December 30. Young people then blew up a refrigerator with heavy fireworks and officers were also attacked that day.
