Fifth Organ Procurement of the Year: Specialty Hospital No. 25 Performs Life-Saving Surgery

for the fifth time in so far this year, Specialty Hospital No. 25 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Nuevo León performed a new multi-organ procurement.

The family of a 65-year-old patient decided to donate her organsafter suffering a brain death, without giving more details, respected her.

The institute performed the surgery to get horny, liver and kidneyswhich will benefit more than 50 people who are waiting for an opportunity to have a better quality of life.

Through a statement it was reported that the bone tissue obtained for the bone bank, could help 50 people from the waiting list.

“In the process of procurement and transplants to beneficiaries of Nuevo León and other entities in the northeast of the country, nearly 100 health workers are involved in UMAE No. 25,” the statement said.

To improve the lives of patients, the institute revealed that the procured liver was immediately transplanted into a 23-year-old girl of age who suffered from liver failure.

While one of the kidneys went to a 53-year-old woman and the other to a 59-year-old manwho had chronic kidney disease and for this reason depended on hemodialysis to continue with their lives.

While the corneas were donated to two men aged 55 and 58 and the bone tissue will be available for people who require the transplant.

The IMSS extended the invitation to citizens to enroll in the voluntary donor program and discuss it with the family so that they are aware of their decision, because even if there is an endorsement from the person, the family has the last decision.
