Breast cancer is nationwide, the first cause of death in Mexican women. It is a disease that demonstrates high cure rates, when making timely diagnoses in early stages, hence the importance of screening in all women over 40 years of age, on a strict annual basis, which is why the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workerslaunched the Fifth Center for the Diagnosis and Detection of Breast Cancer nationwide at the Regional Hospital of the Institute in Puebla.
The inauguration of this important center was attended by: Dr. Felipe Arreola Torres, Head of Services, representing Dr. Ramiro López Elizalde; Prof. Laura Minerva Hernández, Deputy Director of the ISSSTE Medical Directorate; Lic. Paola Andrade Salazar, Deputy Coordinator of the Administration and Finance Department, on behalf of Lic. Almendra Ortiz Genis, Administration and Finance Director; Dr. Anel Arellano Tejeda, head of the ISSSTE Breast Cancer Department; as well as Dr. Arsenio Torres Delgado, Director of the Regional Hospital, Lic. Silvia Pacheco Aguilar, Administrative Subdirector, Dr. Alfonso Tepanécatl García, Medical Subdelegate, as well as medical specialists and authorities from the Institute in Puebla.
When speaking, Dr. Arsenio Torres Delgado, Director of this hospital, indicated that each year approximately 28,500 new cases of this cancer are added nationwide, and in Puebla 500 new cases of breast cancer were registered in 2022, which is why the Puebla Regional Hospital has the firm commitment to guarantee health and rights, which is why with the addition of state-of-the-art equipment, thanks to the supply of new equipment by the General Director of ISSSTE, Dr. Pedro Zenteno Santaella; the Medical Director, Dr. Ramiro López Elizalde and the Director of Administration and Finance, Lic. Almendra Ortiz Genis, such as: a state-of-the-art mammograph and a mammograph with tomosynthesis and stereotaxy As well as the invaluable support of specialized medical personnel, it is intended to increase screening and shorten the referral processes for patients with benign and malignant breast pathologies.
It also indicated that the mortality rate from breast cancer in Mexico is 9.9 per 100 inhabitants, taking into account that the total population of women in Puebla in the risk age groups is 2,893,052 women; Therefore, with or without ISSSTE affiliation, the screening task must be massive. Regional and General Hospitals must actively participate in screening, not only in monitoring and diagnosis, since they are the ones who have the necessary equipment and medical specialists. for detection, diagnosis and treatment.
It is necessary to mention that throughout the Mexican Republic there are more than 130 million inhabitants, of which 41 million are women in the age group at risk, between 40 and 75 years of age, for which reason the greatest number of Mexican female patients will be sought. through permanent screening mammography campaigns.
