Fifth Avenue opens a pedestrian zone during the Christmas season

Fifth Avenue will be vehicle-free again today to welcome the crowds visiting the area for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

From 48th Street to 57th Street, Fifth Avenue is open for pedestrians to walk, view the tree, and enjoy the holiday season.

This is a measure that is part of a partnership between the Department of Transportation, the NYPD and the Fifth Avenue Association.

Mayor Adams says last year’s program generated $3 million for locals, and this year’s program is the largest yet.

Organizers say there will also be entertainment and food and drink vendors.

This Sunday is the first of the three that are included in Open Streets, being pedestrian only from noon to six in the afternoon.
