FIFPro: ‘Evacuate female athletes from Afghanistan, they are in great danger’ | Sport

sport">“Many athletes are at risk in Afghanistan and everything must be done to help them,” the organization said in a statement. “We are relieved that a part has already been brought to safety, but our thoughts go out to those who are still in the country against their will.”

sport">FIFPro writes that the Australian government has succeeded in removing more than fifty athletes from the country. Names of the evacuated athletes have not been released.

sport">Khalida Popal, former captain of the Afghanistan national team, assists FIFPro in its mission. “The past few days have been very stressful for these people, but this mission has been accomplished. The athletes in question have been brave and strong. We hope they will have a better life outside Afghanistan. But there is still much more work to be done. We have to make sure everyone is safe.”

sport">FIFPro reported last week that Afghan youth international Zaki Anwari was killed trying to flee the country. He would have tied himself to an American plane and fell down.
