Fifa’s Decision at Club World Cup Raises Concerns About Player Workload and Schedule

The decision was made by Fifa, the international football association, during the ongoing Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

There are seven teams participating and Europe’s representative is Manchester City.

The players’ union Fifpro is, according to Sky Sports, concerned that players in the 2024-25 season could be forced to play more than 80 games. This is an increase of ten percent of the restriction that exists today.

Also the club organization The World League has expressed concern about the schedule swelling further.

Of the 32 teams, 12 come from Europe and of those, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City are clear as the three most recent Champions League winners. This season’s CL winner also gets a place.

South America gets 6 teams and Africa, Asia and North and Central America 4 teams each while Oceania gets one team. The remaining place goes to a team from the host country.
