Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern once again won the FIFA World Player of the Year election. Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, was far behind.
With 48 votes, Robert Lewandowski was voted FIFA World Player of the Year again after last year. FC Bayern’s top scorer ended up four points ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi, who received the Ballon d’Or at the end of November 2021. Cristiano Ronaldo ended up only in seventh place. The Manchester United striker received just 23 votes.
Portugal coach ignores Ronaldo
But what seems particularly curious is the fact that Fernando Santos did not vote for Ronaldo. The national coach of Portugal, who celebrated the European Championship triumph with ‘CR7’ in 2016, chose FC Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante in first place, with his team-mate Jorginho behind him. Lewandowski finished third for Santos, leaving Ronaldo completely out of his selection.
