FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Final Lists Revealed for Brazil, France, and Jamaica

The countdown continues its march. There are only 20 days to go until the kick-off of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023.

As zero hour approaches, the participating teams rush the last details to arrive in optimal conditions and with their best players who, according to their respective strategists, are capable of playing a good role in the World Cup.

That is why some of the national teams that will be present in Australia and New Zealand playing the World Cup have already given their final lists for the tournament, while others have revealed the provisional list.

FIFA set July 9, 2023 as the deadline for all coaches to submit the squad list, however, they may make last-minute changes due to injury moments before playing their first match of the tournament.

The teams that make up the group of Panama, Brazil, France and Jamaica have already revealed the list of players that will be part of the expedition. Only the Brazilian list is official, while the French and Jamaican ones are provisional.

Marta, at the gates of her sixth World Cup

The Swedish strategist Pia Sundhage revealed the list of 23 summoned during a press conference where there are several surprises. Forwards Marta Vieira and Débora ‘Debinha’ Cristiane will be among the players looking to lead Brazil to its first female star.

Marta, if she plays a minute of the next World Cup tournament, will become the first player, both in men’s and women’s soccer, to play in six editions of a World Cup. She made her World Cup debut in the 2003 edition. The 37-year-old Brazilian is also the top scorer in the history of the World Cups of both genders, with 17 goals. At the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, she took the top two awards. Both the Golden Boot and the Ballon d’Or were embedded with the name of the Brazilian striker.

As surprising as it may be, Brazil has never been the women’s world champion. They fell just short of the championship in 2007 when they lost the final against Germany. She also has a third-place finish at the 1999 World Cup.

Of the 23 summoned, 11 of them do not know what it is to play a World Cup tournament, so Sundhage decided to combine experience with youth for the tournament. The summoned are:

Porters: Letícia Izidoro (Corinthians/Brazil), Bárbara do Monte (Flamengo/Brazil) and Camila Rodrigues (Santos/Brazil).

Defenders: Antônia Ronnycleide (Levante/España), Bruninha Santos (Gotham FC/United States), Tamires Dias (Corinthians/Brasil), Kathellen Sousa (Real Madrid/España), Lauren Leal (Madrid CFF/España), Mônica Hickman (Madrid CFF/Spain) and Rafaelle Souza (Arsenal/England).

Midfielders: Adriana Leal (Orlando Pride/United States), Ary Borges (Racing Louisville/United States), Duda Sampaio (Corinthians/Brazil), Andressa Alves (Rome/Italy), Luana Bertolucci (Corinthians/Brazil) and Ana Vitória (Benfica) /Portugal).

France left out one of its figures

The former coach of Saudi Arabia who defeated Argentina in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, French Hervé Renard, decided to start preparing for the World Cup with 26 players.

Among them does not include one of its highest representatives. We are talking about Kheira Hamraoui, who was not called up due to a technical decision. Another of the players who will miss the World Cup is Marie Antoinette Katoto due to injury. Hamraoui was involved in a controversial ambush in 2021 as she was her victim, where two hooded men attacked her, hitting her with iron bars on her legs.

The French team has never made it past the semifinals of the tournament, so they will seek to turn their streak around in this World Cup edition. The 26 calls by Renard are:

Goalkeepers: Mylene Chavas (Bordeaux/France), Solene Durand (Guingamp/France), Pauline Peyraud-Magnin (Juventus/Italy) and Constance Picaud (PSG/France).

Defenders: Selma Bacha (Lyon/France), Estelle Cascarino (Manchester United/England), Elisa De Almeida (PSG/France), Sakina Karchaoui (PSG/France), Maelle Lakrar (Montpellier/France), Eve Perisset (Chelsea/England). ), Wendie Renard (Lyon/France) and Aissatou Tounkara (Manchester United/England).

Midfielders: Kenza Dali (Aston Villa/England), Laurina Fazer (PSG/France), Grace Geyoro (PSG/France), Amandine Henry (Angel City/USA), Oriane Jean-Francois (PSG/France), Lea Le Garrec (Fleury/France), Amel Majri (Lyon/France) and Sandie Toletti (Real Madrid/Spain).

Forwards: Viviane Asseyi (West Ham/England), Vicki Becho (Lyon/France), Kadidiatou Diani (PSG/France), Naomie Feller (Real Madrid/Spain), Eugenie Le Sommer (Lyon/France) and Clara Mateo (Paris FC /France).

The French coach will have until July 9 to remove three players from this list from the official roster.

Jamaica, in search of surprise

The Caribbean national team, like France, presented a provisional list, but with 24 players, which must be reduced to 23. Coach Lorne Donaldson will have the difficult task of leading a team that due to different situations had to dissolve in 2010.

Everything changed in 2014 when Bob Marley’s daughter, Cendella Marley, held a fundraiser to rescue the Jamaican women’s team and that’s how it was. The ‘Reggae Girlz’ will play their second consecutive World Cup, this after qualifying for the first time in their history in the 2019 edition.

In that contest they failed to score any points and left with three defeats. They scored one goal and conceded 12 goals in three games. Those chosen by Donaldson are:

Porters: Rebecca Spencer (Tottenham/England), Sydney Schneider (Sparta Prague/Czech Republic) and Liya Brooks (Washington State Soccer/United States).

Defenders: Allyson Swaby (PSG/France), Chantelle Swaby (Fleury 91/France), Konya Plummer (AIK/Sweden), Deneisha Blackwood (GPSO 92 ISSY/France), Vyan Shampson (Hearts/Scotland), Tiernny Wiltshire (Houston Dash /USA).

Midfielders: Peyton McNamara (Ohio State/USA), Drew Spence (Tottenham/England), Trudi Carter (Levante Las Planas/Spain), Solai Washington (Concorde Fire/USA), Atlanta Primus (London City Lionesses/England) and Havana Solaun (Houston Dash/USA).

Forwards: Khadija Shaw (Manchester City/England), Jody Brown (Florida State/USA), Tiffany Cameron (Gyori ETO/Hungary), Kameron Simmonds (University of Tennessee/USA), Kiki Van Zanten (Notre Dame/Barbados) , Paige Bailey-Gayle (Crystal Palace/England), Cheyna Matthews (Chicago Red Stars/United States) and Kayla Mckenna (Rangers/Scotland).

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand is just around the corner and it remains to be seen which players will finally be on the oceanic continent to represent their country.
