FIFA has published a schedule for the host city selection process for the 2026 World Cup in which Montreal is taking part and should be able to announce the venues selected in the last quarter of the year.
Canada, the United States and Mexico will jointly host the World Soccer Cup that year. This will also be the first edition of this tournament to feature 48 teams.
In Canada, the Quebec metropolis is one of three candidates with Edmonton and Toronto.
The United States could be represented by Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle or Washington. On the Mexican side, Guadalajara, Mexico and Monterrey are candidates.
From February, virtual discussions will take place between the organization and the cities, then inspection visits will begin in July if the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic – and the protocols put in place view of these tours – allows. Sixteen cities will be selected.
