FIFA uses G20 to call for Russia-Ukraine truce to pave way for peace at World Cup | RYT9

The president of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has called on Russia and Ukraine to temporarily suspend hostilities during the month before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I urge you to think about a month-long ceasefire during the World Cup. Or at least ask for a humanitarian corridor to be set up. or anything that leads to the resumption of negotiations as a first step towards peace,” Infantino said at the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

The FIFA president said the World Cup was an important platform for promoting peace and unity. Around 5 billion people around the world will watch this year’s World Cup live. which will be held from 20 November to 18 December
